... Excessive heat warning in effect until 11 am PDT Friday... ... Heat advisory no longer in effect... As a strong ridge of high pressure remains overhead hot weather is expected to continue across most of the interior portions of the Monterey and San Francisco Bay regions. Highs in many areas for Wednesday and Thursday will be at or above 100 degrees while overnight lows in many places will only cool into the mid 70s. The combination of the very hot daytime temperatures and warm conditions at night will make for dangerous conditions. Some relief is expected by Friday afternoon as slightly cooler weather returns to the area. An excessive heat warning means that a prolonged period of dangerously hot temperatures will occur. This excessive heat warning is being issued utilizing a new heat health warning system. It is specific to the areas included. It is targeted at the elderly... or infirmed... who might be much more sensitive to heat and thus at greater risk. Individuals who fall into this category should be especially careful by drinking plenty of water... reducing outdoor exposure... staying out of the sun... seeking a cooler location for the day if no air conditioning is available in the living quarters... and/or asking a friend or relative to check on you frequently.
