... Fast flowing cold water expected for Memorial Day weekend... Temperatures are expected to be around 80 degrees in the valley and mid 60s to mid 70s in the foothills this weekend and cooling around 3 to 8 degrees on Memorial Day. There is also a chance of showers in the valley and showers likely in the mountains on Memorial Day. Rivers and lakes and the water temperatures are cold and dangerous. Sierra and foothill water temperatures are currently in the 50's and valley water temperatures are in the mid 50s to mid 60s. Exposure to water of this temperature is dangerous. Even experienced swimmers can lose muscle control very quickly and fast flowing water will make Rescue difficult. People planning activities such as rafting... swimming or paddling should always wear life jackets or vests. Children in particular should always wear a life Vest if they are even near the Waters Edge. |
